1. Please introduce your company.
Rakuten Maritime is a trusted partner in the marine cybersecurity market, providing ship cybersecurity solutions for safe navigation throughout the entire ship lifecycle, from design to operation. Rakuten Maritime is the first solution in the industry to be recognized by classification society ClassNK as compliant with the IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) UR E26/E27 regulations. We actively support shipowners and shipbuilders in meeting enhanced cybersecurity requirements and continue to lead the industry in setting new standards.
2. What is your company's main theme for KORMARINE?
At Kormarine 2025, Rakuten Maritime's main theme is “Rakuten Maritime: Opening a Innovative Chapter of Maritime Cybersecurity.” This theme embodies our vision to lead the way in cybersecurity, one of the most critical challenges in the digital transformation of the shipping industry, leveraging Rakuten Group's innovative IT capabilities.
Rakuten Maritime leverages its innovative IT technologies developed across various industries to address the complexities of the shipping industry and increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. We prioritize the development of proactive defense and response systems against cyber attacks that threaten the safe operation of vessels and the sustainability of shipping companies as our core competency.
Rakuten Maritime provides unique solutions that address the cybersecurity challenges faced by maritime companies throughout the entire lifecycle of a vessel. Rakuten Maritime demonstrates its unique strengths in the following specific areas:
1) World first design to operation, IACS UR E26/E27 international regulation compliant solution
At the ship order and contract stage, Rakuten Maritime analyze shipowner requests through CRA (Cybersecurity Requirement Analysis) and automatically analyze cyber security risks using TM (Threat Modeler) during ship design and construction. During the commissioning phase, Rakuten Maritime diagnose network vulnerabilities using SC (Scanner), providing a systematic foundation for compliance with IACS UR E26/E27 international regulations throughout the entire process.
2) Continuous Ship Cyber Security Management
During ship operations, Rakuten Maritime manage ship assets and cyber security in real time through RM (Risk Manager). In particular, Rakuten Maritime protect core ship systems by confusing attackers and detecting abnormal access early with the Ship Honeypot system, and share files safely and quickly between ships and land through Rakuten Drive for Maritime.
3) Advanced Cyber Threat Analysis and Expert Support
Through TI (Threat Intelligence), Rakuten Maritime provide marine cyber security insights based on advanced cyber threat intelligence, and through TA (Threat Analysis), Rakuten Maritime automatically collect ship equipment log data to enhance threat analysis. Additionally, Rakuten Maritime contribute to strengthening customers' internal capabilities through support from experts with global-leading expertise and extensive experience in areas such as cyber security training.
At Kormarine 2025, Rakuten Maritime will introduce comprehensive cyber security solutions, including the establishment of a Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) throughout the entire ship lifecycle, as a bridge connecting South Korea and Japan, which are major hubs of the marine industry. Through this, we will showcase our expertise in ensuring the safety of ships across the marine industry as our top priority and contribute to the sustainable future of the shipping industry.
3. What does KORMARINE mean to your key clients or partners?
Rakuten Maritime's main customers and partners are shipbuilders and shipowners who require a deep understanding of ship cyber security and practical solutions. Rakuten Maritime's participation in Kormarine 2025 will provide our customers and partners with a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm the importance of cyber security in the era of digital transformation in the shipping industry and explore practical measures to comply with the IACS UR E26/E27 international regulations.
As the digital transformation of ships accelerates, the threat of cyber attacks is also intensifying. Such attacks can cause significant financial and operational damage to ships. Furthermore, with the enforcement of IACS UR E26 and E27 starting July 2024, cyber security considerations have become an essential element throughout the entire ship design and operation process.
At this year's Kormarine, Rakuten Maritime will present the optimal roadmap and solutions for compliance with these regulations and practical threat response, helping customers address their current challenges and proactively prepare for the future maritime environment. Against this backdrop, Rakuten Maritime will highlight the importance of ship cyber security and our specialized response solutions at this year's Kormarine exhibition.
Rakuten Maritime's solutions go beyond mere cyber threat defense, providing systematic cyber security management (CSMS) across the entire lifecycle of a vessel, as well as real-time threat detection and response capabilities.
Rakuten Maritime's customers in the shipbuilding and shipping industries will gain a clear understanding of the value of cybersecurity as an essential element in creating a healthy and safe marine ecosystem, as well as the benefits of Rakuten Maritime's differentiated cybersecurity solutions through Kormarine 2025. Furthermore, Rakuten Maritime will strengthen its position as the optimal partner for ensuring cybersecurity in the future shipping industry and present innovative solutions in collaboration with its customers and partners at this exhibition.
4. The IACS UR E26/E27 international regulations came into effect in 2024. What is the biggest impact of these mandatory regulations on the shipping industry as a whole, and what solutions does Rakuten Maritime offer to keep pace with these changes?
The IACS UR E26 and E27 regulations, which came into effect on July 1, 2024, have brought significant changes to the shipping industry. IACS has made cybersecurity mandatory from ship design to operation and has mandated systematic security requirements that are integrated across the entire ship lifecycle and individual product levels. These international regulations require comprehensive activities that go beyond resilience, including advanced risk management, network security structures, incident response, product security development, maintenance, and documentation. This means that all stakeholders in the shipping industry must recognize cybersecurity as a core element of business operations and strengthen their responsibility for comprehensive risk management.
To ensure full compliance with these essential regulations, Rakuten Maritime offers specialized cybersecurity solutions for the entire lifecycle of ships. We help our customers comply with international regulations through customized CSMS consulting for IACS UR E26/E27 compliance and provide ship-specific cybersecurity solutions that protect OT/IT systems on board. Additionally, Rakuten Maritime support customers in proactively addressing evolving threats and maintaining safe operations through integrated monitoring systems for continuous security management and cyber threat prediction and prevention information.
Rakuten Maritime, leveraging the unique technological expertise of global IT company Rakuten, will be the most trusted partner in helping customers build and lead the way toward a safe and robust cyber environment for the future of the shipping industry.
5. Cyber security threats in the shipping industry are becoming increasingly sophisticated. In this situation, how does Rakuten Maritime respond with differentiated strategies in terms of real-time monitoring and threat detection?
With the digitalization of the shipping industry, cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Rakuten Maritime leads the way in shipping industry safety with predictive and proactive real-time monitoring and threat detection strategies that go beyond simple post-incident response.
Rakuten Maritime deeply understands the unique operational technology environment of ships and has established a customized threat analysis and vulnerability management system that reflects the characteristics of ship systems. This enables the identification of potential risk factors in advance and proactive security enhancements. In particular, Rakuten Maritime utilizes active defense mechanisms that lure and disrupt attackers to detect threats to actual systems at an early stage. The threat intelligence gained through this process is used to understand attackers' intentions and methods and establish more sophisticated defense strategies. Additionally, Rakuten Maritime analyzes the latest global cyber threat trends in real time to provide security insights tailored to the marine environment and integrates monitoring of the security status of vessels in operation to support immediate detection and response to any anomalies.
Through these specialized analysis, proactive threat detection technologies, and real-time integrated management, Rakuten Maritime commits to being a reliable partner that not only ensures compliance with international regulations such as IACS UR E26/E27 but also contributes to practical security enhancement and stable maritime operations.
